Rhyolite ignimbrites; Early Pleistocene felsic volcanics; Yellowstone Plateau

Lower Pleistocene silicic volcanic units of the Island Park-Yellowstone area.
StateIdaho
NameRhyolite ignimbrites; Early Pleistocene felsic volcanics; Yellowstone Plateau
Geologic ageEarly Pleistocene
Original map labelQplf
CommentsQplf is Huckleberry Ridge Tuff, which is mostly light gray rhyolitic ash-flow tuff, isotopically dated 2.0 Ma, and erupted during the first eruptive cycle of the Yellowstone Plateau volcanic field, from the Big Bend Ridge caldera segment of a cauldron complex, southeast of, and much larger than the previously inferred Island Park caldera (ID123).
