Basalt, pumice; Holocene basaltic lava flows and cinder cones; Snake River Plain and vicinity

Recent, relatively unweathered Snake Plain basalt flows and cinder cones.
StateIdaho
NameBasalt, pumice; Holocene basaltic lava flows and cinder cones; Snake River Plain and vicinity
Geologic ageHolocene
Original map labelQrb
CommentsThe Qrb unit includes the Craters of the Moon lava field, which consists of more than 93 lava flows and flow units, cinder cones, and eruptive fissure systems (ID098). Lavas are evolved tholeiitic ferrobasalt to ferrolatite (ID125). Quarternary volcanic rift zones parallel NW-trending basin-and-range faults. Qrb also includes parts of the Pleistocene McKinney Basalt, and Wendell Grade Basalt.
