CommentsIn stratigraphic order, oldest to youngest: the Reed Dolomite is 1,560 feet thick; the Deep Spring Formation is 1,500 feet thick; the Campito Formation is 2,500(?) feet thick; the Poleta Formation is 1000+ feet thick; the Harkless Formation (including Saline Valley Formation at the top) is 3,500 feet thick; the Mule Spring Limestone is 400-500 feet thick (main part of Esmeralda County, Albers and Stewart, 1972). Often lithologically similar, these formations can be separated by their respective fossils.

Sedimentary > Carbonate > Dolostone (Bed)Almost exclusively within the Reed Dolomite with minor beds in the lower member of the Deep Springs Formation; includes silty or sandy dolomite and dolomitic sandstone, possibly some silty limestone.

Metamorphic > Quartzite (Greenschist)Primarily in the Andrews Mountain Member (lower) of the Campito Formation, the middle member of the Poleta Formation, and the Saline Valley Formation at the top of the Harkless Formation. Possibly minor in rank.
