CommentsCentral Virginia Volcanic-Plutonic Belt Amphibole Metagabbro from expanded explanation (Karen Hostettler). From expanded explanation (ref. VA002): Amphibole metagabbro. Dark-greenish-gray, coarse grained, massive, hornblende metagabbro. Mineralogy: plagioclase + hornblende + biotite + clinopyroxene + quartz; relict olivine and myrmekitic intergrowths of quartz in other minerals are characteristic. Geophysical signature: small circular areas marked by positive magnetic anomalies. Metagabbro intrudes Ta River Metamorphic Suite.
