CommentsNewark Supergroup; Mesozoic Basins From expanded explanation (ref. VA002): Basalt . Fine- to medium-crystalline, equigranular, porphyritic, vesicular, or amygdaloidal; medium- to dark-gray subophitic intergrowths of plagioclase laths and clinopyroxene with amygdules of calcite, zeolites, and prehnite. Occurs only in the Culpeper basin as three principle basalt flows separated by sedimentary rocks.
