Geologic setting

Geologic description

Quartz vein, 2 to 8 inches thick, containing arsenopyrite, galena, gold, and sphalerite, cuts Late Cretaceous Valdez Group slate and graywacke. Vein strikes N 11 to 40 E and has a nearly vertical dip. Assays up to 4.25 oz/ton Au reported (Johnson, 1914).

Mineral deposit model Chugach-type low-sulfide Au-quartz veins (Bliss, 1992; model 36a.1?) or Epithermal Au vein?
Mineral deposit model number 36a.1?
Age of mineralization Late Cretaceous or younger; veins cut Late Cretaceous Valdez Group slates and graywackes.
Alteration of deposit Oxidation evident at outcrop (Johnson, 1914).
