|Location and accuracy||
This unnamed prospect is at an elevation of about 3500 feet on the crest of the western part of the ridge that separates Eureka and Moose Creeks. The prospect is west of the head of No Name Creek, about in the center of the NW1/4 of section 17, T. 16 S., R. 17 W., Fairbanks Meridian. The location is accurate within 500 feet.The site corresponds to number 42 of Bundtzen, Smith, and Tosdal (1976), 142 of Hawley and Associates (1978), and 53 of Thornsberry, McKee, and Salisbury (1984).
Geologic descriptionThe country rock at this prospect is mainly quartz-mica schist of the upper Precambrian Birch Creek Schist (Bundtzen, 1981; Hawley and Associates, 1978). The deposit consists of a weakly auriferous quartz vein that contains arsenopyrite and pyrite. Samples assay about 0.01 to 0.03 ounce of gold per ton, small amounts of silver, and up to 0.99 percent arsenic. According to Bundtzen (1981), the vein strikes N 40 W and is vertical. Hawley and Associates (1978) mapped a vein that appears to strike ENE and dip steeply NW.
