Location and accuracy | This occurrence is on the floor of the canyon of Eldorado Creek about 0.3 mile south of Iron Dome. It is in the NE1/4NW 1/4 section 23, T. 16 S., R. 18 W., Fairbanks Meridian. The location is probably within 1000 feet of location 21 of Thornsberry, McKee, and Salisbury (1984), and within 500 feet of location 68 Hawley and Associates (1978). It also corresponds to number 11 of Bundtzen, Smith, and Tosdal ((1976) and 14 of Bundtzen (1981), but their map sites apparently do not agree with their text descriptions of the site. |
Geologic descriptionThis occurrence consists of stratiform, semimassive to massive pyrite layers or lenses 1 to 18 inches thick and possibly as much as fifty feet long, in calcareous quartz-muscovite schist of the lower Paleozoic Spruce Creek sequence (Bundtzen, 1981). Samples assay up to 0.005 ounce of gold per ton and 0.027 percent arsenic (Thornsberry, McKee, and Salisbury, 1984, occurrence 21, Appendix II). | |

Age of mineralization | This stratiform, possibly syngenetic, deposit may be early Paleozoic, the protolith age of the Spruce Creek sequence hostrocks (Bundtzen, 1981). |
Workings or exploration | The deposit has been reconnaissance mapped and sampled (Bundtzen, Smith, and Tosdal, 1976; Bundtzen, 1981; Thornsberry, McKee, and Salisbury, 1984). There are no significant workings. |
