Joesting (1942) reported that a molybdenum deposit had been discovered on the Indian River during placer operations. Although the mineralization was said to be high grade there apparently was no attempt to systematically sample the deposit. There is no information that suggests that any work was done to further explore this occurrence. The only other indication of Mo mineralization in the area was an anomalous Mo value of 25 ppm in a placer sample collected by the Bureau of Land Management in about 1997 (Kurtak and others, 1999). The bedrock under the placer workings is Cretaceous granodiorite and quartz monzonite (Patton and Miller, 1966).
