|Location and accuracy||Cobb (1972, MF-413), loc. 89; SW1/4SE1/4 sec. 10, T. 2 N., R. 1 E., of the Fairbanks Meridian. The coordinates given are for the approximate center of placer mining that occurred along the lower and middle section of Steamboat Creek. Accuracy is within 1,500 feet.|
Geologic descriptionA narrow pay streak of gold-bearing gravel was mined in 1915 (Brooks, 1916; B 642). The gold was worth $18 per ounce (Prindle and Katz, 1913). Placer ground is shallow in lower to middle part of the stream course where mining took place. The creek was re-mined by open-cut methods from 1966 to 1968.
