Geologic descriptionPay gravel is shallow, from 8 to 12 feet deep, over quartzite schist and porphyritic granite bedrock (Prindle, 1904; Prindle and Katz, 1909). Cassiterite is common in concentrates (Prindle and Katz, 1909). This placer was mined sporadically from 1903 to 1927 (Cobb, 1976; OFR 76-633). Production from 1903 to 1910 was valued at $120,000 with gold worth $17.66 per ounce (Prindle and Katz, 1913). | |
