Location and accuracy This prospect is the westernmost of several along the south valley wall of Hidden Creek (MacKevett, 1972). It is at an elevation of about 4,500 feet, east of the toe of a small glacier, 2,500 feet southeast of elevation 5025 in the SE1/4 of section 35, T. 3 S., R. 12 E. of the Copper River Meridian. This is locality 116 of MacKevett (1976).

Geologic setting

Geologic description

This prospect is the westernmost of several on the south valley wall of Hidden Creek (MacKevett, 1972). Here, malachite, chalcanthite, and minor bornite occur along faults that cut Triassic Nikolai Greenstone near the contact with overlying Triassic Chitistone Limestone. A short adit and surface workings explored the deposits. The widespread deposition of copper in Triassic greenstone and limestone of the area is thought to have accompanied regional deformation and low-grade metamorphism in the Late Jurassic or Early Cretaceous (MacKevett and others, 1997). Copper-bearing minerals were deposited in the underlying Nikolai Greenstone at about 112 Ma (Silberman and others, 1980).
