Location and accuracy | This occurrence is on the east valley wall of an unnamed east tributary to Russell Glacier. It is at an elevation of about 5,500 feet, 2,500 feet southwest of elevation 6732 in the SE1/4 of section 2, T. 3 S., R. 20 E. of the Copper River Meridian. This is locality 112 of MacKevett (1976); the location is accurate to within about 1,000 feet. |
Geologic descriptionThis occurrence consists of secondary iron and copper minerals (malachite?) that coat fracture surfaces in Triassic Nikolai Greenstone (MacKevett, 1976). Copper mineralization is common in Nikolai Greenstone and is thought to have accompanied regional deformation and low-grade metamorphism in the Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous (MacKevett and others, 1997). | |
