Location and accuracy | This occurrence is at an elevation of 3,100 feet on the northeast flank of Paxson Mountain, 1 mile northwest of Mud Lake. It is in the NE1/4NW1/4 section 1, T. 22 S., R. 11 E., Fairbanks Meridian. The occurrence corresponds to locality 4 in Rose and Saunders (1965). |
Geologic descriptionSeveral pieces of copper-stained float containing minor chalcocite occur in a frost boil at this location (Rose and Saunders, 1965). The float is vesicular basalt of Nikolai Greenstone of Late Triassic age. The metabasalt is partly altered to epidote. | |
