Location and accuracy | This occurrence is at an elevation of 3,200 feet at the north end of Rainbow Ridge about 4,500 feet east-northeast of the 'Miller Mine' on the Richardson Highway. It is in the NE1/4SE1/4 section 19, T. 18 S., R. 11 E., Fairbanks Meridian. The occurrence corresponds to locality 2 in Hanson (1963), to locality 17 of Cobb (1979 [OFR 79-238]), and to locality S102 in table 2 of Nokleberg and others (1991). |
Geologic descriptionAt this occurrence a 1.5-foot-thick replacement zone borders a quartz vein that strikes east-west and dips 65S (Hanson, 1963). The zone contains chalcopyrite and pyrite and is near a mineralized dike (Nokleberg and others, 1991). A U.S. Geological Survey grab sample of a 6.5-foot-thick pyritic metadacite dike intruding metagraywacke contained 1,000 ppm zinc. The vein cuts sedimentary and volcanic rocks of the Slana Spur Formation of Pennsylvanian age, which are locally intruded by granodiorite and dacite (Nokleberg and others, 1991). | |
