Location and accuracy | This occurrence is at an elevation of about 5,000 feet, 0.5 mile north-northeast of VABM Watana. It is near the center of the NE1/4 sec. 36, T. 22 S., R. 2 W., Fairbanks Meridian. The location is accurate to within 1/2 mile. |
Geologic descriptionThis occurrence consists of bornite, covellite, and chalcopyrite in garnet-epidote-quartz skarn and hornfels (Kurtak and others, 1992). The skarn grades into marble that is part of a sequence of Triassic metabasalt, argillite, metachert, and marble (Csejtey and others, 1978). Selected samples of the mineralized skarn contain 3.5 parts per million silver, 0.2 parts per million gold, and up to 0.26 percent copper (Balen, 1990). As of January 1, 2000, a block of approximately 96 state mining claims covered this and adjacent prospects (Northern Associates Inc., written communication, 2001). | |
