Location and accuracy | The Copper King prospect is at an elevation of about 3,600 feet on the south valley wall of Iron Creek. It is about 1.2 miles south-southeast of the junction of the East Fork and Iron Creek and 4 miles east of Rainbow Lake, in the NE1/4 sec. 24, T. 26 N., R. 1 E., Seward Meridian. The location is accurate to within 1/4 mile. This is locality 81 of Csejtey and Miller(1978). |
Geologic descriptionThe prospect is in greenstone cut by a shear zone that strikes NE, dips 60 E, and varies from 6 to 20 feet wide (Capps, 1919 [B 692]). Replacement bands within the shear zone consist of massive chalcopyrite, specular hematite intergrown with quartz, and pyrite. Other replacement mineralization varies considerably and contains minor values of gold and silver. A number of trenches and open cuts have been excavated (Capps, 1919 [B 692]). | |
