Information leading to the delineation of this focus area

Basis for focus area Exploration by Union Carbide delineated sandstone U-V-Se-Mo deposits in the Galisteo Formation. Focus area is defined by the basin boundaries defined by McLemore and Chenoweth (1989) and McLemore (2017).
Identified resources Identified resources of uranium.
Production None.
Status Past exploration.
Estimated resources 45,000 tons 0.05% U3O8 delineated historical resource (McLemore and others 2013).
Geologic maps Moore (1979), scale 1:3,000.
Geophysical data Inadequate aeromagnetic and aeroradiometric coverage.
Favorable rocks and structures Sandstone units.
Deposits Diamond Tail (MRDS dep_id: 10014468).
Evidence from mineral occurrences MRDS.
Geochemical evidence Unknown.
Geophysical evidence None.
Evidence from other sources Moore (1979), company reports on file at NMBGMR.
Comments The Union Carbide Corporation began development of the Diamond Tail deposit. A 76-m decline (19°) was sunk, and some ore stockpiled. The company suspended operations before shipping any ore due to high production costs and declining market conditions (McLemore, 1982b).
Cover thickness and description Covered.
Authors Virginia T. McLemore.
New data needs Update and digitize (GIS) ore deposit maps that delineate ore deposits mined and ore deposits remaining to be mined.
Geologic mapping and modeling needs Map digitization.
Geophysical survey and modeling needs None requested at this time.
Digital elevation data needs Lidar complete.
