Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry/Partial Extraction Methods

The NGS contains data from three laboratories that did analyses by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) using partial-extraction methods. The USGS and XRAL Laboratories followed essentially the same procedure and reported 10 elements (thus the abbreviation "ICP10" used in the NGS database). Several thousand samples in Nevada were analyzed by U.S. Mineral Laboratories (USML), which followed a slightly different method, resulting in somewhat different reporting limits plus four additional elements. Even though 15 elements were measured by USML, the database refers to "ICP10" as the analytical method.
