Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry/Acid Dissolution Methods

The NGS contains data from three laboratories that did analyses for a wide suite of elements by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). The USGS and XRAL Laboratories followed essentially the same procedure, and reported 40 elements (thus the abbreviation "ICP40" used in the NGS database). Several thousand samples in Nevada were analyzed by ACME Laboratories, which followed a slightly different method, resulting in somewhat different reporting limits plus four additional elements. Even though 44 elements were measured by ACME, the database refers to "ICP40" as the analytical method.
