| Comments | Thickness from stratigraphic columns: Shelburn-Patoka Fms (0-560’) in southern Illinois (south of 40 degrees north latitude); Shelburn-Patoka Fms (0-155’) in northern Illinois (north of 40 degrees north latitude). The two formations represent the lower part of the McLeansboro Group. The Shelburn-Patoka Formations include, from oldest to youngest, the Brereton Limestone, Bankston Fork Limestone, Danville Coal, Piasa Limestone, West Franklin Limestone, Trivoli Sandstone, Chapel Coal, Carlinville Limestone, and Macoupin Limestone in southern Illinois, and northern Illinois, the Anna Shale, Brereton Limestone, Danville Coal, Farmington Shale, Gimlet Sandstone, Lonsdale Limestone, Exline Limestone, Trivoli Sandstone, and Chapel Coal. |
