Comments (from Wichita Falls-Lawton Sheet, 1987) Shale, ls., sandst. Mostly shale, gray, weathers tan, laminated and bioturbated, comm. silty and calcareous, local abdt ferruginous nodules, contains brachiopods, fusulinids, solitary corals, and abdt crinoids; sandstone v. fine grained to fine grained, in thin beds up to 1 ft with horiz and ripple laminae, local soft-sediment deformed, in lenses up to 8 ft thick, thin and thick beds, contorted, ripple-marked, local tracks and trails, often poorly indurated; limestone lentils most in upper part, dk-gray and brwn. coarse grained, clayey, bioclastic; Sandstone (separately mapped on Wichita Falls-Lawton Sheet, 1987) brn, fine grained, massive, trough-crossbedded, laminated, local soft-sed deformed, plant debris common, sparse ferrug. nodules, weather to boulders, 30-40 ft thick. Thickness of Wolf Mountain Shale 200-225 ft. (from Abilene Sheet, 1972)--shale, sandst., and limest. shale gray, weathers brown; above Staff Ls contains ls., clayey, bioclastic and sandst in channel-fill. below Staff Ls some ironstone, concretions, locally thin, calcareous, fossilif. sandst. and sandst. lentiles. lignite 10-15 ft thick north of Brazos R. near base. Staff Ls 95 ft above base, fine grained sandy northward, thin beds with shale partings, gray, abdt fusulinids in upper part; prob equiv to Adams Branch Ls of Colo.R. valley of Brownwood Sheet. Thickness of unit 100-270 ft
