Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = The Peternie prospect consists of disseminated sulfide minerals in altered and leached quartz monzonite and latite porphyry (Singer and others, 1976). Potassium feldspar in a vein cutting the intrusive has a 40Ar/39Ar age of 102.8 +/- 0.5 Ma (Newberry and others, 1996). In 1974, some drilling and sampling took place. Sampling results show that copper minerals and molybdenite are probably present. Elevated molybdenum and zinc values were also reported in rock grab samples. Seven drill pads are visible from the air, and several thousand feet of drill core are stockpiled on site. Examination of random core boxes in 1984 by Doyon Ltd. showed pervasive potassic, propylitic, and phyllic alteration in the majority of samples examined. Systematic rock and soil sampling have also been conducted on the property (Doyon Ltd., 1998).
  • Age = Potassium feldspar in a vein cutting the intrusive has a 40Ar/39Ar age of 102.8 +/ - 0.5 Ma (Newberry and others, 1996).
