Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = Most of the lower parts of Left Fork Dome Creek were placer mined during the first few years of mining in the area. Production was estimated to be about $20,000 or almost 1,000 ounces of gold by 1908 (Smith, 1909). Surface water was lost to underground channels (karst ?) in the marble of bedrock. Bedrock rock is part of a lower Paleozoic metasedimentary assemblage (Till and others, 1986).
  • Age = Quaternary.
