Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = This deposit consists of a quartz vein containing iron and copper sulfides, inferred to be pyrite and chalcopyrite. The vein is near a contact between schist and greenstone and is reported to have assayed from 0.2 to 2 ounces of gold per ton (Smith, 1908). Copper sulfide oxidation products, inferred to be malachite and azurite, are also present. Bedrock in this area is marble, schist, and local greestone (Hummel, 1962 [MF 247]). The prospect is within about one-half mile of the head of mining activity on Osborn Creek (NM305).
  • Age = Mid-Cretaceous or younger; vein cross cuts schist metamorphosed in the mid-Cretaceous.
