Comments on the commodity information

  • IN THE AUSTRALIAN SULFIDE DEPOSITS THE MAJOR PRIMARY ORE MINERAL IS PENTLANDITE WHICH IS GENERALLY ASSOCIATED WITH NICKELLIFEROUS PYRRHOTITE. IN MOST DEPOSITS THIS PRIMARY ASSEMBLAGE HAS BEEN ALTERED TO A VIOLARITE-PYRITE ASSEMBLAGE IN THE ZONE DOWN TO ABOUT 200 M BELOW SURFACE. VARYING AMOUNTS OF CHALCOPYRITE AND OTHER COPPER-BEARING SULFIDES ACCOMPANY THE NICKEL-IRON SULFIDES. THE NICKEL-COPPER RATIO VARIES BETWEEN ABOUT 3:1 AND 60:1.

Comments on the geologic information

  • THE ORE DEPOSITS ARE INTRUSIVE BRECCIA PIPES OF BONZITE-SULFIDE PEGATOID IN ROCKS OF A LAYERED MAFIC-ULTRAMAFIC COMPLEX. THE COMPLEX INTRUDES ARCHAEAN BASIC VOLCANICS, ACID VOLCANICS AND SEDIMENTS. ULTRAMAFIC ROCKS ARE CONCENTRATED ON THE WESTERN SOUTHERN AND EASTERN MARGINS. THE ORE DEPOSITS ARE SITUATED NEAR THE WESTERN EDGE OF THE COMPLEX. THREE SEPARATE SHOOTS OF ORE HAVE BEEN FOUND WITHIN A ZONE OF PEGMATOID INTRUSION.

Comments on the workings information

  • A SUB-LEVEL STOPING METHODE WAS IN USE. SOME ORE WAS MINED BY GLORY HOLE EXTENDING FROM SURFACE TO NO. 1 LEVEL.

Comments on development

  • ECON.COM: DUE TO A COMBINATION OF MINING PROBLEMS AND SHORTAGE OF SKILLED LABOUR THE MINE DID NOT REACHED THE PLANNED LEVEL. PRODUCTION WAS SUSPENDED FROM JUNE, 17.1975
