Comments on development

  • FEE, PATENTED CLAIM. - AN EARLY PROSPECT CA 1870. IT WAS DEVELOPED & PRODUCED ABOUT $200,000 WORTH UP TO 1902, THEN WAS IDLE UNTIL 1918 WHEN IT WAS TAKEN OVER BY THE SPRUCE MONARCH MINING CO., WHICH IN TURN WAS SUCCEEDED BY THE SPRUCE MONARCH CONSOLIDATED MINING CO. IN 1928, THE SPRUCE MONARCH LEAD AND SILVER MINING CO. OPERATED IT. A 1500 FT. ADIT WAS DRIVEN IN 1918 CUTTING THE VEIN AT 500 FT., AND SHIPMENTS WERE MADE TO SMELTERS. IN 1928, THE MISSOURI-MONARCH CONSOLIDATED MINES CO. CONSOLIDATED THE MONARCH AND THE BLACK FOREST MINES CO. THE MONARCH PRODUCED AGAIN FROM 1919 TO 1921, 21,000 TONS ORE RETURNING ABOUT $475,000. IN 1922, THE MONARCH WAS THE LARGEST PRODUCER IN THE DISTRICT; IN 1926, 2000 TONS PB-AG ORE WAS SHIPPED. 1928-WINZE SUNK TO 600 FT LEVEL AND DEVELOPMENT CONTINUED UNTIL 1930 WHEN THE BRONCO TUNNEL WAS BEGUN; IT REACHED 2700 FT. (FOR ACCESS & HAULAGE) BY 1937. PROPERTY CONTINUED TO PRODUCE UNTIL 1944 WHEN PRODUCTION ROSE SHARPLY WITH METALS PRICE INCREASE. AFTER
  • 1949 PRODUCTION FELL OFF WITH THE LOWER METALS PRICES, WITH ONLY MINOR SHIPMENTS THROUGH 1952.

CONSOLIDATED THE MONARCH AND THE BLACK FOREST MINES CO. THE MONARCH IS ONE OF THE OLDEST AND DEEPEST MINES IN THE DISTRICT WITH MORE THAN 3000 FT OF WORKINGS ALONG 3 OR MORE VEINS. THE MAIN ADIT IS AT AN ELEVATION OF 8,455 FT. IN 1919 THE MONARCH ADIT CONNECTED THE OLD WORKINGS AND PRODUCTION WAS INSTITUTED FROM 1919 TO 1921 21,000 TONS OF ORE (17% LEAD AND 20 OZ. TON SILVER) WAS PRODUCED AND SHIPPED TO A.S. & R. CO. WITH A RETURN OF ABOUT $475,000. IN 1922 THE MONARCH WAS THE LARGEST PRODUCER IN THE DISTRICT. IN
Deposit 1926 2000 TONS OF LEAD-SILVER ORE WAS SHIPPED. THE CONSOLIDATION IN 1928 INSTITUTED MORE DEVELOPMENT WORK, WITH A WINZE SUNK TO THE 600 FT LEVEL; WORK CONTINUED UNTIL FEB. 1930 WHEN THE BRONCO TUNNEL (1800 FT N. OF MONARCH TUNNEL) WAS DRIVEN; BY 1937 THIS ADIT WAS 2,700 FT AND CONNECTED WITH THE BLACK FOREST WORKINGS - THIS ADIT WAS FOR ORE HAULAGE AND ACCESS. MOST OF THE PRODUCTION CAME FROM THE 300, 400, 500 FT LEVELS IN 4 ORE BODIES LOCATED IN THE FORDNA-HARDY ORE SHOOT AND THE MONARCH FISSURE. IN 1930 THE THELMA VEIN WAS ENCOUNTERED. THE PROPERTY CONTINUED TO PRODUCE ALONG WITH THE BLACK FOREST MINE UNTIL 1944 AND WWII WHEN PRODUCTION ROSE SHARPLY AS METAL PRICES ROSE. AFTER 1949 WHEN METAL PRICES FELL, PRODUCTION WAS GREATLY CURTAILED WITH ONLY MINOR ORE SHIPMENTS THROUGH 1952. A SCHEELITE OCCURRENCE WAS NOTED IN 1954 ON THE ATLANTIC CLAIM OF THE NEVADA MONARCH CONSOLIDATED MINES CO. IN THE VICINITY OF THE MONARCH MINE. MINERAL SURVEY NO. 42A (OFF. NO. 1464). ; INFO.SRC : 1
