Deposit CPRM HAS EXPLORED THIS DEPOSIT BY EXTENSIVE DEPOSIT DRILLING AND OTHER GEOLOGICAL EXPLORATION. BASED ON THE RESULTS OF THE RESEARCH WORK OF CPRM, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ORE AT MORRO DO ENGENHO IS SUITABLE FOR PROCESSING INTO FERRONICKEL ALLOYS. THEREFORE IT HAS BEEN PROJECTED IN 1989 PRODUCTION WILL BEGIN AFTER BUILDING A SMELTER AND SOME INFRASTRUCTURE. THERE ARE NO ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS AS SUCH, AS THE MINE HAS NOT ASSUMED PRODUCTION YET, HOWEVER THE SULFER STACK EMISSIONS EMANATION FROM ANY SMELTING OPERATION WOULD POSE A MAJOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM. THE MORRO DO ENGENHO DEPOSIT IS A TYPICAL LATERITIC OREBODY DEVELOPED BY WEATHERING OF AN ULTRAMAFIC INTRUSIVE HOST ROCK. THE SMELTER CONSTRUCTION WILL BEGIN IN 1986. THE Q-RESERVE DATA WAS DERIVED FROM DIMENSIOAL DATA THE SMELTER IS, ESSENTIALLY, IS THE MILL, AS THE ORE ENTERS THE SMELTER (ON SITE) DIRECTLY FROM THE MINE. IN THE SMELTER, THE ORE IS CRUSH, GROUND, AND SCREENED.
