  • THE MINERALIZATION OF THE OREBODY AT THE ROSIA POIENI MINE IS DISSEMINATED IN ANDESITIC SUB-VOLCANIC INTRUSIVES WHICH ARE HOSTED BY CRETACEOUS SEDIMENTS. THE UPPER PORTION OF THE MINERALIZED ZONE IS OXIDIZED. THE HEIGHT OF THE MINERALIZATION IS NOT WELL DETERMINED BUT BELIEVED TO VARY FROM TEN METERS TO HUNDREDS OF METERS. (1989) AS REPORTED IN 1989, HEAD GRADES FOR THE COPPER AT THE MINE AVERAGE APPROXIMATELY .35%. THE MINE ALSO PRODUCES MOLYBDENUM AS A MINOR BYPRODUCT WITH AN AVERAGE HEAD GRADE OF APPROXIMATELY .10%. IN 1989, MOST ROMANIAN COPPER DEPOSITS WERE CLASSIFIED AS GENERALLY LOW GRADE ORES AND WERE CONSIDERED MINERALOGICALLY COMPLEX.

  • AS OF 1989, THE AVERAGE GRADE FOR THE COPPER CONCENTRATE WAS 18% CU. THE FLOTATION RECOVERY RATE FOR COPPER WAS VERY POOR. THE STATE METALLURGICAL RESEARCH ORGANIZATION DETERMINED THE RECOVERY AT 40% WHILE THE MINISTRY OF MINING OFFICIALS REPORTED A 65% RECOVERY RATE. THE DIFFERENCES ARE ATTRIBUTED TO OXIDATION OF THE ORE IN THE UPPER PORTIONS OF THE DEPOSIT WHICH WERE CURRENTLY BEING EXPLOITED. CONCENTRATE PRODUCTION 1984 - 1990 (@18% CONTAINED CU): 1984 15,000 MT CONC. 1985 20,000 MT CONC. 1986 20,000 MT CONC. 1987 35,000 MT CONC. 1988 40,000 MT CONC. 1989 40,000 MT CONC. 1990 40,000 MT CONC. MO CONCENTRATES ARE TREATED AT A SMALL HYDROMETALLURGICAL PLANT LOCATED AT MOLDOVA NOUA (NEAR DEVA) (AS OF 1989). AS OF 1989, CONCENTRATES OF CU, PYRITE, AND MO WERE THE THREE PRIMARY PRODUCTS PRODUCED BY ROSIA POIENI.

TOTAL RESERVES FOR ROSIA POIENI, REPORTED AS 250,000,000 MT, IS AN AVERAGE OF THE TOTAL RESERVES BELIEVED TO BE IN THE ROSIA POIENI AREA (QUOTED AT 200,000,000 TO 300,000,000 MT). NOTE: THE CRU REPORT CONTAINS A PRINT ERROR, UNDER-REPORTING RESERVES BY A FACTOR OF 1,000. PROVEN RESERVES, AS LISTED IN 1992 BY THE MINING JOURNAL, ARE PROBABLY INDICATED (DEMO) RESERVES FOR DATABASE PURPOSES. IT IS PROBABLE THAT "PROVEN" MAY BE TOO OPTIMISTIC.

  • THE 1989 CRU REPORT INDICATED THAT ALL EXTRACTED COPPER ORE IS TRANSPORTED TO THE ZLATNA COPPER SMELTER, NORTH OF THE MINE.
  • THE CONCENTRATOR CAPACITY WAS DETERMINED TO BE 14,545 MTPD. IN 1992, THE MINING JOURNAL INDICATED A 9,000,000 MTPY TREATMENT CAPACITY WITH 45% COPPER RECOVERY.
