Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = Eakins (1968, p. 13) collected several stream-sediment samples in this drainage that contained anomalous amounts of mercury and zinc. In addition, he found float of massive pods and veinlets of pyrite up to 3 inches thick in the stream. Bedrock along the stream includes several felsic dikes intruding argillite. Dikes and faults in the area generally trend east-west.
  • Age = Possibly Late Cretaceous or Early Tertiary. Mineralization may be related to the felsic dikes, which are inferred to be part of a regionally extensive Upper Cretaceous and Lower Tertiary plutonic suite (Hoare and Coonrad, 1978).
