Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = At this occurrence the rocks consist primarily of sandstone and shale of the Paleocene to Eocene Tolstoi Formation. The site is near the contact with the Eocene to Oligocene Meshik Formation (Wilson and others, 1995). The sedimentary rocks are cut by andesite or basalt dikes that tend to be pyritized and iron-stained. The sandstone locally contains disseminated pyrite and rare aggregates of pyrite. Some small, barren, calcite veins occur in fracture zones. Samples collected by the U.S. Geological Survey were reported to contain anomalous amounts of lead, zinc, antimony, and arsenic (Wilson and others, 1988).
  • Age = Tertiary.
